Things vs Feelings & S.O.S

"Why do women talk so much? How can they shop with a girlfriend all day, then talk to her for 2 hours on the phone that night? What do they talk about?" were the questions posed by Ed and Russ at the beginning of our lunch yesterday. By the end of the meal, it appeared that Russ and Ed talked just as much as Julie and I did. The difference was they were talking about "things" like HD televisions, cell phones, and towing systems on cars, while Jule and I discussed important issues like "feelings" about life and people in our lives.

Russ and Julie Manhold are two of a kind and I knew them "way-back-when" they weren't a couple. Watching their romance evolve on our various dive trips was a "kick-in-the-pants" for us all. They both have such a zest for life AND they are so organized without seeming stuffy.

We agree that if we lived closer, we'd probably be a foursome. We had a fantastic buffet lunch at The Ark (great restaurant) on Stirling Road. This turned out to be a 3 hour visit and we didn't nearly finish our conversations. What a delight to reconnect with cherished "old" friends.

I say that Russ and Julie saved the Undersea Adventurers Dive Club from dying out and fading away by taking on the Social Director's job a couple of years ago. Their events are impeccably planned, creative, and every event is one of those...."A good time was had by all" kind.

They also use their skills, energy, and dedication with skydiving events, as seen below. By the way, Russ was one of the skydivers in this event.

Some would ask, "Is there life after 60?"
"Our group of Skydivers Over Sixty (SOS) have proved skydiving is a sport for young and old alike," states Russ Manhold. The public didn't hear a lot about this event because it was the same time that the plane went down in the Hudson River in New York City.

Russ and Julie spent a year organizing the 2009 SOS world record series event at Skydive Deland, Florida, January 15-18th. This involved organizing skydivers from all over the world, pilots, videographers, and many more people. They also arranged a hotel and a banquet.

This was our Undersea Adventurers Dive Club's "Ultimate Dive" in 1990. Alan and I were both crazy enough to jump out of a perfectly good airplane and we lived to tell about it! It was a rush, that's for sure. My heart still pounds when I watch the video of my jump.
