Ed's Son & Family Visit

Ed's son, Steve, his wife, Lorraine and grandson, six-year-old Sean, came for the weekend.  The weather was perfect for sitting in the Florida room, which we did.

We went for pizza Saturday evening.  On Sunday morning, we met George and Kay at Golden Corral for brunch.

On our way home from brunch, we stopped at the Savanna State Preserve educational center.  (A savanna is a flat grassland in tropical or subtropical regions.)

This 5,000 acre preserve is on the east and north sides of our Savanna Club development.  That explains why we have so much wildlife here.
We hit a good time because there were only two other people there so Sean got the full attention of the forest ranger.  She was really age appropriate in her presentation and with answers to his questions.

Secondly, we hit a good time because she had just fed a mouse to a small boa and we could see it moving down inside his body!

Would you like to touch the corn snake?
Dad, you go first.

Sean was brave and touched it!

The shininess of the skin gave the impression it would feel wet.
Mom was surprised to discover it was smooth and silky.

This was probably a
once-in-a-lifetime experience --
seeing a snake drink water!

Taste Treat was just that!

Lisa Lerz, this one's for you!

I never thought about snakes drinking before now--great that Sean got to see one in the act! Snakes are not at all my cup of tea, but that was neat.

The soft serve ice cream place reminds me of one that was close to my house in NJ. It was only open in the warmer months. My sister and I thought we were "big" when we could go there by ourselves, either on foot on on bikes, and spend our allowances on ice cream cones dipped in chocolate. Now I want one of those!
